EDS brings American Chopper to Cranbrook Institute of Science
Motorcycle technology roars into Cranbrook Institute of Science with the opening of the EDS Byron Nelson Championship Chopper exhibit, now through Oct. 1.

In 2007, EDS, sponsor of the Byron Nelson Championship, partnered with Orange County Chopper, the company featured on TLC Network's "American Chopper," for a PGA Tour first: build three custom motorcycles. One bike was presented to Scott Verplank, winner of the 2007 EDS Byron Nelson Championship. The second was auctioned off with all proceeds benefiting the Salesmanship Club Youth and Family Centers. The third chopper – the one at the Institute of Science – was retained by EDS to raise awareness of the EDS Byron Nelson Championship and the charity it supports.

The mention of classic motorcycle styling brings up thoughts of strength, reliability and a by-gone era where hand-tooled quality was king. The classic lines of the EDS Byron Nelson Chopper were inspired by mid-20th century design. For the EDS Byron Nelson Championship chopper, Orange County Chopper put its own spin on classic motorcycle design by building a chain-drive, rigid frame with 21" rims and narrow tires. The result is a classic looking motorcycle featuring the latest motorcycle technology.

A short video loop showing behind-the-scenes activity and the unveiling of the choppers at the EDS Byron Nelson Championship accompany the display.

The EDS Byron Nelson Championship Chopper Exhibit is free with museum admission.
